2AM Brain Dump ? Sept 25, 2025
Tonight's Hyper Midnight Brainstorm: The Uber Commercial
At exactly 2AM, running on max high-tension mode,
Kazuhiro Tanaka (that's me) had a bizarre little fantasy.
And now, in the calm light of… well, slightly less delirious morning,
I shall write it down.
Even if it's embarrassing. EVEN IF IT SHAMES ME TO MY CORE.
I WILL WRITE.
You know that taxi app? The "Uber" one?not Uber Eats, but the car one.
Its Japanese ad has this killer tagline:
“Taxis, your way.”
Honestly, 10/10. Bangs. Nails the app's concept perfectly.
But... these days, every ad has a wall of microscopic fine print underneath.
Stuff like,
“This is a dramatization. Actual results may vary.”
You know, the kind of disclaimer where you wanna scream:
“DUH. OBVIOUSLY.”
But no?apparently some people out there don't get it.
So yeah, I get it. Legal gotta legal.
And then it hit me:
That Uber slogan?"Taxis, your way"?is dangerously wide open.
What if some over-entitled gremlin of a customer takes it literally?
Like, “If it's my way, I want the driver to pick me up INSIDE the train tunnel. At full speed.”
I've read enough horror stories about monster customers to know this is not far-fetched.
So maybe we're just a few customer complaints away from this kind of fine print:
“‘Your way' refers to the ability to call a taxi at your preferred time and location within operational limits. It does NOT mean fulfilling any and all requests.”
Sounds reasonable, right?
But WAIT.
The monster customer strikes again:
“Preferred location? Great. I'm at Platform 2 of the Shinjuku subway. Come get me there.”
...Sir, what?!
So now we gotta slap on a second disclaimer:
“‘Preferred location' refers to publicly accessible outdoor areas within the taxi's legal operation zone. Not, like, subway tunnels. Please don't.”
...Yo. That's terrifying.
The fine print is evolving.
Soon it'll need its own billboard.
Kazuhiro's 5AM Follow-up Comment
Yeah, yeah, I know the disclaimers are necessary.
But man... they're really starting to kill the vibe.
